EEB Undergraduate Poster Session

The Department of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology hosts an annual Poster Session in April of each year.  Participating students are EEB or Biology majors or minors, or are conducting research with a faculty member in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology.  Both beginner and advanced categories are represented, and there are awards given to the top-placing posters in both divisions.

The goals of the Undergraduate Poster Session and Contest:

• Highlight Departmental research opportunities for undergraduates through a poster session
• Provide a forum to showcase the research projects conducted by our undergraduates
• Provide undergraduates with an opportunity to acquire tools necessary to be successful in post-graduate studies (creating and presenting a scientific research poster)
• Facilitate interaction between undergraduate students and faculty

• Who Can Present?
• To enter a poster in the poster session you must be a declared EEB or Biology major or minor OR be conducting research with a faculty member in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. 
• All levels of research involvement are encouraged to participate (beginner through advanced).
• Biology, Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, and Bioinformatics majors earning directed research (i.e. graded) units are expected to present at our poster fair.

Graduation

The Department of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology holds a commencement ceremony for all EEB and Biology students every May.

The 2019 Department of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology commencement ceremony will be held on Friday, May 10 at 10:00 am in Environment and Natural Resources 2, room N120. The ceremony will be followed by brunch at Biological Sciences West, North Patio. Dress for the EEB commencement ceremony is semi-formal; caps and gowns are not expected.

Applying for Graduation

Graduation and Commencement are two different processes. Candidates for undergraduate degrees must file to graduate with their academic advisor before registering for a commencement ceremony.

Degrees are granted four times during the year – May, August, December and winter. Any questions about the filing process should be directed to your academic advisor.

Deadlines for filing for degree candidacy:
December/winter- September 1st of the intended semester
May/August- February 1st of the intended semester

What should you do to prepare?
Students should meet with their academic advisor the semester before their intended graduation date to ensure proper course selection for their final semester. They should then meet with their advisor again before the filing deadline to initiate the official degree application process. All major and minor advisors must sign off on the Degree Audit Worksheet, so starting the process early is recommended.

What happens next?
Once you submit your Application for Degree Candidacy online, your anticipated graduation date will be entered in UAccess and the $50 candidacy fee will be applied to your Bursar's account. Your Degree Audit Worksheet will be forwarded on to Graduation Services.  You will then be contacted about commencement ceremonies, graduation announcements, etc. through your official UA email.

Commencement
Students in the Department of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology can participate in 1-3 different commencement ceremonies. The University-wide ceremony takes place in the Arizona Stadium on the Friday after finals at the end of each Spring semester. Students who graduate in the summer or fall semesters may sign up to walk in an adjacent Spring commencement. More information can be found on the UA Commencement website.

The College of Science holds their own commencement ceremony each December and May in which students are recognized individually. An RSVP is required for this event. The Department of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology also holds their own commencement and student recognition ceremony each May where graduating Biology and Ecology & Evolutionary Biology majors are recognized individually.
