In a study published in Nature, Michael Worobey and coauthors reconstruct the evolutionary tree of flu viruses challenging conventional wisdom and solving some of the mysteries surrounding historocal flu outbreaks. The study provides the most comprehensive analysis to date of the evolutionary relationships of influenza virus across different host species over time. See coverage in Nature, UA News, NPR.

In a study published in Biology Letters, researchers found that people living in northern latitudes have more gut bacteria linked to obesity compared with people living in southern latitudes. Read more in UA News and HuffPost.
